Marta Marrero

Marta Marrero, professionally known as Martika, rose to fame in the late ’80s and early ’90s. The singer-songwriter and actress released her debut self-titled studio album in 1988, and it topped the music charts. In fact, between those years, she managed to sell over four million copies of her albums worldwide. Her subsequent album also reached international success. Her biggest hit was Toy Soldiers, which rapper Eminem sampled in his 2004 version Like Toy Soldiers.

After leaving the music industry due to both fatigue and the burden of becoming famous, she finally disappeared from the public eye in 1992. As an actress, Martika is known for her role as Gloria on Kids Incorporated. In the 2000s, she co-produced a web-based television show, J8ded. Her latest project was in 2016 in the “Totally 80s Tour” in Australia, where she performed with artists like Paul Lekakis and Berlin. She currently lives in Dayton, Ohio, with her husband, musician Michael Mozart.
