Shannon
Brenda Shannon Greene, known professionally as Shannon, rose to prominence for her single Let the Music Play, which topped the Billboard charts in the early ’80s. She also received credit for creating “the Shannon Sound,” which would later be known as freestyle music. Shannon was nominated for a Grammy Award and won many other awards, including the Dina Washington (Jack the Rapper) Award, Hall of Fame Award, Ampex Reel Gold Award, and Best Billboard Top Ten Female R&B Lead Vocal.
Shannon’s last album was released in 2006 and is called A Beauty Returns. That same year, she joined the Freestyle Extravaganza concert with artists Stevie B, Lisa Lisa, and Cult Jam, Coro, and The Cover Girls. The 62-year-old musician has never married and has no children. Instead, she focused on creating what she loves the most. Today, Shannon still occasionally performs shows around the world and makes herself known to the modern generation. And she does this because she is still a voting member of the Grammy Recording Academy.
